Happy New Year One and All,

With renewed vigour, I'd like to submit the following application-template
on behalf of Stig, John & Paul [1] for a newly formed working group:

https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/academia-wg

Prior to officially minting the WG (on the
Governanace/Foundation/UserCommittee page), we do require a vote from you
our esteemed user-committee members.

VOTE: What shall we call this new WG?!

Options:

A.) ACADEMIA-WG
B.) SCIENTIFIC-OPENSTACK-WG
C.) OPENSTACK4RESEARCH-WG
D.) Some other combination or wording therein?!

It is worth noting that this WG will amalgamate help to promote the HPC/HTC
Working Group, ideally meeting together and/or proximally.

Other key topics which this WG will look to address (esp re discussion in
Austin):

  * HPC Infrastructure, i.e. enabling researchers to have "on tap" compute
resources for research experiments in parallel, simulation and high
throughput jobs.
  * Application infrastructure, i.e. ease of working collaborative with
fellow researchers, scientists and lab colleagues, such as conducting cloud
native data analysis experiments (via RStudio, iPython, Matlab, etc.)
  * Social infrastructure, i.e. communities emerging in academia which are
promoting use of cloud computing for collaborative research and science,
such as #swcarpentry #ResBaz #ClimbAcUk etc.
  * Data infrastructure, i.e. large data science experiments and their
usability via cloud applications such as data from DNA sequencers,
MRIs/CT/XRay, Defraction, -Omics, etc.
  * Last but not least, promoting the amazing things which Academia is
doing with OpenStack... about time a University got a SuperUser award, no?!

[1]= Many thanks to John, Paul and Stif for the guidance and advice, along
with all the other nominated members of this WG.

Go on, one little letter is all it takes to vote 🔤

Warm Regards from Australia,

Flanders
