[User-committee] Sample App Requirements Planning Call

Hi everyone,
Last week some of the app ecosystem working group met to discuss next steps for a potential sample app (not to be confused with the first app sprint and documentation that happened last week!).

Most people on the call seemed interested in the idea of running a “come with code” contest. The working group / judges TBD would convene at the Vancouver Summit to choose a winner, and perhaps we could schedule work time there or a hackathon over the summer to build it out. The challenges of course are that we’re only six weeks out from the Summit, and contests can be hit or miss in terms of producing results (especially if people are busy leading up to the event).
Thanks Shilla for putting together a first draft of the potential contest guidelines, which we can iterate on in this google doc: https://docs.google.com/a/openstack.org/document/d/1jqeoSLqAUyUsiWpfnfSPyFgIqncYed_vDMxvXbv_fWg/edit?usp=sharing. The only proposed change I made is to call it a prototype or skeleton app, so we don’t scare people off with the deadline.
The next steps are to finalize the contest guidelines as well as a timeline to launch it / choose a winner. Please feel free to jump in on this thread or add notes if you participated in the call. It sounds like the team working on the sample app would like to continue meeting every Wednesday at 10 am PT, except for the in-person meeting scheduled for April 16th at SLAC (see invite on this list from Karl Amrhein).
I will not be able to attend the call this Wednesday nor the live meeting April 16th, so would anyone else like to set up a conference bridge this week and run it? Things are getting busy for the foundation staff leading up to the Summit, so we’ll definitely need the working group and any additional volunteers to help drive this forward if we want to make it happen for Vancouver.
Any other thoughts from the community?
