Andy,

It's wonderful to see this work coming to fruition! In my day job, I
come in contact with any number of organizations across the USG that are
all demanding open cloud standards to avoid vendor lock-in and promote
portability and interoperability. We have to do everything we can to
promote open standards such as OCCI. OCCI, along with OVF and CDMI,
were mentioned several times by name in the NIST Federation Cloud
Technology Roadmap. We are working to get several projects started as
part of the NIST Priority Action Plans to demonstrate usage in concrete
scenarios. There is tremendous interest in the USG wrt OpenStack for
these reasons, along with the need for truly open APIs.

I regret that I cannot be at the OCCI unconference -- I will be in DC at
that time discussing some of these very issues. Let's tag-up afterwards.

Best regards,

--Craig

By having this API exposed out of OpenStack, large projects such as FutureGrid [4], EGI FedCloud [5], FIware [6] and CompatibleOne [7] (as well as others some listed here [8]) can leverage OpenStack as an infrastructure platform and in so growing the OpenStack community and adoption all the more! This also has the backing of recommendations from the UK [9] and German Governments [10]. Details of what it can do can be found in the OpenStack wiki [11]. This is work that has been carried out by Intel Labs Europe in the Cloud Service Lab and is partially funded by FIware [6] and echoes in spirit, as does the OCCI working group's principles, much of what Thierry Carrez wrote in his recent blog post [12].
