Dear David,
Microsoft is a good partner with Red Hat in OpenStack area, and you do like
to contribute Open Source Hackathons...
Would you like to provide Cloud resource for the TW App Hackfest for
OpenStack in next April?

~Chris

Subject: [openstack-tw] Cloud for the TW App hackfest

Hi all,

We need to get moving on preparing a cloud for the TW App Hackfest. The
cloud will support everyone's needs for the event, and be a "mission
critical" component.

Rico's put together a set of high level objectives for the cloud we need in
the high level design document [1]. Though, to summarise: basically it's a
kilo or liberty OpenStack cloud with a few hundred physical cores worth of
capacity and running all the common services.

Our preference is to try and re-use an existing cloud rather than build one
ourselves. Though, unfortunately, as there are no public OpenStack clouds
nearby network-wise, that means we're looking at internal clouds, or our
second preference: build one for the event. If we do have to build one, we
want to limit the variables to something that has been done before, and by
experienced people to remove the risk of the platform not working.

So far we've had expressions of interest related to the following
organisations:
* HP - Unfortunately, the HP public cloud will shut down before this event,
but HP has still offered some assistance.
* Inwinstack - offer to help build a system if we can find hardware
* CHT - might have a cloud already internally. Need technical details.
* ITRI - investigating whether they have an appropriate cloud or appropriate
people who could help

We're also asking around local hardware vendors to see who might have
hardware we can borrow.

Anyway, if you know of a cloud we might be able to use, or this is something
you feel you can contribute to, please reply to the thread and maybe if we
get enough people and ideas we will have a meeting :)

Regards,

Tom
