[Openstack-track-chairs] Proposal to remove session voting on Community mailing list

My biggest gripe is the number of product-specific submissions that have little or no benefit to the greater community and/or a majority of attendees.

Would love to be able to rate a session (as a track chair and/or a voter) on a "product pitch” scale. I think splitting out the summit from conference will help a little…

OR, maybe a "product/solutions showcase" track would be beneficial to separate out sales pitches from community/code-oriented topics. I guess we kinda do that now with sponsored tracks…. But not every company can afford a sponsored track. :)

I had the same impression…the only sessions that may have been dropped before voting were incomplete or duplicates.

Thanks for throwing out the idea, Gary. I hadn’t heard that exact proposal before, and it’s definitely interesting.

Don’t remember dropping sessions prior to voting. Just moving from track to track.

I made this suggestion once before but it didn’t get much traction so I’ll give it another shot. Instead of exposing the community to, in the case of the ATX summit, 1,300 talks for open voting, what if the track chairs did a first pass on sifting through the talks in their respective tracks to remove the wheat from the chaff, so to speak? Then, take that shortened list of talks to open voting. You could reduce the amount of time open for voting since there would be fewer sessions to review.
This is exactly how it worked for Austin :)

Subject: [Openstack-track-chairs] Proposal to remove session voting on Community mailing list

Hi everyone,

We just sent and email to the Community mailing list to propose the removal of session voting for the Barcelona Summit.

If you’d like to chime in, please join the conversation over on that mailing list.

Thanks,
Claire
