[Openstack-track-chairs] summit selections

With the exception of Product, Tools track, my understanding is it is safe to avoid vendor pitches. However, I think our last time agreement was that we will allow vendor talks in the Products, Tools category. We still have to use judgement like others noted below.

So I wouldn’t base it on that alone….I voted for a bunch of Cisco sessions, but I was honest. If I removed my votes, and looked at votes from other companies, the scores aren’t far off.

I’m actually quite surprised on how few votes most of these sessions have. 200 votes for a session with a community of tens of thousands is a small number, but I’m guessing that might be due to the fact that there are over a thousand things to vote on.

FYI— Full disclosure: I voted down vendor-specific product-pitch type talks.

hi
Vendor submissions
I am seeing quite a few vendor type pitches with lots of community votes, is that a case of a vendor having their employees and friends vote for their session?
Generally, we should not admit vendor pitches to summit, correct?

I am seeing the same. After looking at the submissions, it's fairly obvious which companies did the best campaigning for their submissions. Keep in mind the voting is only part of how you select sessions for your track. Use your judgement to create an interesting track which you feel represents the space you have well. In other words, don't just use the top sessions with the most votes.

Business level submissions
My understanding is that openstack summit wants to de-emphasize technical sessions and attract a business audience, correct?
So should we look for business-level submissions in our tracks?

thank you

Jonathan
