[openstack-tc] Glance project update

Hello Thierry and members of the TC,

Since we've recently tagged Glance P-3, released the Pike
python-glanceclient, and the Pike non-client glance_store library, I'd
like to give you an update on the current state of the Glance project,
particularly given the bleak outlook when I wrote you in April [0].

The bleak outlook was not unjustified, as we've had 6 Glance cores
step down during Pike because they no longer had time to devote to
Glance.

On the other hand, Glance has received a good deal of community
support. Erno Kuvaja, a long time core and the current Glance release
czar, has been instrumental in coding, reviewing, and keeping the
Glance lights on. Mike Fedosin found time to do reviews and was
reinstated as a Glance core. A longtime contributor, Abhishek
Kekhane, became a Glance core and has contributed high-quality reviews
and bugfixes. Flavio Percoco, a long time Glance core, contributed
timely reviews around the image import refactoring work, and has been
helpful in keeping the project moving along. Matt Treinish stepped up
and single-handedly completed the Pike run-glance-as-a-wsgi-app goal.
Sean McGinnis, Eric Fried, and Kairat Kushaev have all been active
reviewers. Additionally, we've been seeing small contributions from a
variety of developers from various companies (and hopefully these will
turn into larger contributions).

My personal situation is that I've been running the weekly meetings
and trying to keep things coordinated, and reviewing and making
contributions as I can, but until today I've been doing this on a
volunteer basis while looking for a job (which was absorbing more and
more effort as time elapsed and I brushed up skills for non-openstack
positions). I'm happy to say, however, that today I began working for
Verizon Wireless, where a large part of my job will be working on
upstream OpenStack (and in particular, on Glance).

Additionally, it looks like Glance is on target to hit our Pike
priorities [1]. (Admittedly, these were scaled back in April, but
still ...) There was only one FFE granted for Pike [2], so all things
considered, I feel good about how things are shaping up for the
release.

With reference to some other discussion that has happened on the dev
ML, all I have to say at the moment is that the rumors of Glance's
demise have been greatly exaggerated. But we can discuss that at the
PTG.

Respectfully,
Brian Rosmaita
Glance PTL
