From fungi at yuggoth.org Thu Jul 2 21:40:52 2020 From: fungi at yuggoth.org (Jeremy Stanley) Date: Thu, 2 Jul 2020 21:40:52 +0000 Subject: [OpenStack-Infra] Merging this list into openstack-discuss Message-ID: <20200702214052.6ddhwn3heafqh5xx@yuggoth.org> As covered in the most recent infra meeting[0], we seem to have consensus that this mailing list should be closed down and subsequent conversations moved to the more general openstack-discuss mailing list[1]. I propose on Wendesday, July 15, 2020 we merge a change[2] to forward any subsequent messages destined for this list to openstack-discuss and remove the current ML (leaving its archive published for posterity of course). The TaCT SIG already indicates[3] that its discussions should take place on openstack-discuss, and OpenDev service announcements[4] and discussion[5] have long moved to their own mailing lists. Does anyone disagree with this plan? Still, I would like to mention the fact that our mailing list implementation does not encourage new users to engage, as it requires them to subscribe to the list. I found that more people are likely to engage with a web based platform, one that would allow them to easily login post a message or follow a specific topic, without being "subscribed" to the mailing list. Apparently the v3 of mailman went into the "forum" direction and seems to have implemented a very friendly interface. I already started a proof of concept for MM3 a little while back, some notes for my initial investigation are here: https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/mm3poc That was before our current push to container-based deployments, so the next task was to attempt a similar PoC with the official MM3 container images in order to find out how closely they align with our systems management model. This is within the scope of OpenDev efforts however, so let's please restart this topic on the service-discuss ML if you're really interested. > Python seems to use it https://mail.python.org/archives/ They did move most of their MM2 lists to MM3, but then their mailing list moderators got burned out and new volunteers pushed to start moving to yet another platform: https://discuss.python.org/ Anyway, I think all of this is entirely orthogonal to whether we can retire the openstack-infra ML. -- Jeremy Stanley -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
