Our </span><span><i>UX/UI Docs Guidelines</i> specialty team met last week to discuss the idea in more detail. We'd greatly appreciate the core & broader team's input on the "where" ideas below, as well as, any alternative options that we might have missed. <br></span><span><span><br>Here's a quick summary. </span><br><br>What: Officially publish OpenStack personas and UI heuristic checklist (cross-project materials) - potential to grow and contain more UX tools/resources<br>Who: Audience... <br></span></font><ul><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">OpenStack developers --> would use the tools to make decisions about services/interface design<br></font></li><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Product working group --> could use in marketing materials</font></li><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Doc team --> could use the tools when evaluating future/changing information requirements & design</font></li></ul><p><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">When: The UX team would like rst files available as soon as possible, so we can collaborate on reviews before/during the Austin summit. (if possible)<br></font></p><p><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Where: Current ideas....</font></p><ul><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Option A: Create a "OpenStack UX Design Guide: Tools for developers..." guide, under the Contributor Guides section on docs.openstack.org. The guide would house UX design materials (like, engaging UX, personas, use cases, resources section w/ heuristic checklists, etc..)....basically a "design corner" concept with guide name tbd. <br></font></li></ul><ol><ol><ul><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Pros: Peer to other contributor guides - creates a more prominent focus on UX/UI design in OpenStack, we could reference guide from appropriate locations to increase visibility</font></li><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Cons: <br></font></li><ul><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">New guide - logistics more complicated, logistics help needed<br></font></li><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Takes longer to get reviews going<br></font></li></ul></ul></ol></ol><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2"><br></font><ul><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Option B: Add to the existing Doc Contributor Guide, but modify the guide's scope<br></font></li></ul><ol><ol><ul><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Pros: <br></font></li><ul><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Existing guide - logistics easier, content would be available to review sooner</font></li><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">UI guidelines content in one location (The new UI heuristic checklist links to the UI text guidelines that we recently added to the doc contributor guide.)<br></font></li></ul><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Cons: Not just for text guidelines anymore, so the guide's current scope would expand slightly to include a section specifically on UX/UI tools for a cross-project audience.<br></font></li></ul></ol></ol><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2"><br></font><ul><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Option C: Add to the existing Doc Contributor Guide as-is, potentially adjust later...<br></font></li><ul><ul><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Pros: Content available for review quickly, lowest logistical impact</font></li><li><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2">Cons: scope could be confusing for users, adjusting later delays some work<br></font></li></ul></ul></ul><font face="Default Monospace,Courier New,Courier,monospace" size="2"><br>Due to the potential for more cross-project UX design materials, I like option A. However, we can also revisit that in the future. With the desired time frame and proposed materials to-date, option B is definitely more feasible in the short term. <br><br>Anyone have thoughts? Strong IA preferences one way or another? Thank you all in advance for your input and ideas!
