Now that packages have started to drop it's Install Guide
season, so I've been talking to Matt about what needs to
be done, and here's where we are:

Structurally, we've all sort of decided that we're not
going to make any unnecessary changes, so there's not a
huge amount of work to do. Also, based on the Ubuntu
packages, it appears that aside from determining which of
the handful of workarounds we had to add for Icehouse are
still necessary for Juno, hopefully we won't have a ton to
do. Most of the changes so far involve configuration
files… just a handful of distro/packaging workarounds so
far and no doubt those will change prior to release. He's
also trying to replace MySQL with MariaDB, except for
SLES, and remove support for RHEL 6.x and Ubuntu 12.04.
Other changes may include minor adjustments to
nova-network -- "(it won’t go away!)" -- to make it mirror
neutron more closely with the concept of internal (tenant)
and external (floating IP) networks.

Note that this is based
on the Ubuntu packages, which are themselves
based on Milestone 2, and NOT Milestone 3, so that could
of course change when we get the final, and when we start
digging into other distros.

When we get this done, Matt estimates that we should be
about 85% towards completion of the "Improve the Install
Guide" project; there are still some sections that need
rewriting for quality, but not necessarily for content.
(In other words, they work, but they can be better
written.) The last big chunk of the install guide
improvements project involves Swift, and he feels that the
ability to tag someone familiar with it would help move
patches. He's also a bit concerned about trove, and I'm
going to work with him to find out what's needed there and
track sown some resources. The remaining improvements
include networking (which served as a baseline for many of
the improvements) and a consistency validation for the
entire guide (after some subjective review issues).
