We’ve already had many discussions at Training guides meetings about moving to some other more actively maintained/developed framework for slides.

FWIW, "hovercraft!" is my tool of choice for creating fancy HTML5 slides
with restructured text. Presenter view included.

Demo:
http://regebro.github.io/hovercraft/#/step-1

Syntax:
https://hovercraft.readthedocs.io/en/latest/presentations.html#hovercraft-syntax

It uses "impress.js" under the cover, a browser with a good javascript
engine (like chrome) is therefore key.
