Thanks Alfredo. Yes, a single eth0:

$ ip a
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN
group default qlen 1000
...
2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast
state UP group default qlen 1000
     link/ether 52:54:00:dd:2c:f3 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
     inet 192.168.1.202/24 brd 192.168.1.255 scope global eth0
        valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
     inet6 240d:1a:3c5:3d00:5054:ff:fedd:2cf3/64 scope global mngtmpaddr
dynamic

     inet6 fe80::5054:ff:fedd:2cf3/64 scope link
        valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

and ifcfg-eth0 is unchanged since installation (perhaps I should clean
it up a little; could IPv6 be causing problems?):

$ cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
TYPE=Ethernet
PROXY_METHOD=none
BROWSER_ONLY=no
BOOTPROTO=none
DEFROUTE=yes

More info: This is a VM running /CentOS 7.6.1810 /on a Fedora KVM host.
eth0 is bridged. I did disable and stop network manager and firewalld on
the guest.

Bernd.
