We attempted to remove v1, but after a discussion in Tokyo realized that
we can't easily do that. We're stuck with it, at least for some time.

But that said, as you point out we have had it marked as deprecated for
quite a while and I do think it's not really necessary to run the v1
tests on every single run. Especially as we add v3 functionality that
diverges from v2.

We will continue to fix v1 issues if they are found, but that is not the
focus of our efforts and I agree it's not really worth slowing everyone
down for something that is basically in "maintenance mode".
