Hi All,

Here’s a summary of what happened at the Summit from the API Working Group perspective.

Etherpad: https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/kilo-crossproject-api-wg

The 2 design summit sessions on Tuesday were very well attended, maybe 100ish people I’m guessing. I got the impression there were developers from a diverse set of projects just from the people who spoke up during the session. We spent pretty much all of these 2 sessions discussing the working group itself.

Some action items of note:

Update the wiki page [1] with the decisions made during the discussion
Add an additional meeting time [2] to accommodate EU time
Email the WG about the Nova (and Neutron?) API microversions effort and how it might be a strategy for moving forward with API changes

Review the rest of the action items in the etherpad to get a better picture.

The follow up session on Thursday (last slot of the day) was attended by about half the people of the Tuesday sessions. We reviewed what happened on Tuesday and then got to work. We ran through the workflow of creating a guideline. We basically did #1 and #2 of How to Contribute [3] but instead of first taking notes on the API Improvement in the wiki we just discussed it in the session. We then submitted the patch for a new guideline [4].

As you can see there’s still a lot of work to be done in that review. It may even be that we need a fresh start with it. But it was a good exercise for everyone present to walk through the process together for the first time. I think it really helped put everyone on the same page for working together as a group.

Thanks,
Everett
