We made some progress with some prototype code, but never completed the effort. We subsequently marked the corresponding blueprint as "obsolete":
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/nova/+spec/kmip-client-for-volume-encryption

The work that JHU/APL is doing to integrate KMIP into barbican supersedes the original idea.

As John pointed out, JHU/APL is working on adding KMIP support to Barbican.
We submitted the first CR to add a Secret Store interface into Barbican.
The next step is to add a KMIP implementation of the Secret Store.

We are working in parallel to add KMIP support to Barbican and to release an open source version of a Python KMIP library. We would like to have both out by Juno.

That work was not proposed by us, so I can't comment on the status of that.
Right now our path forward is to support Barbican by adding a KMIP Secret Store.
